Hi everybody,
The greatest problem regarding obliquity is that since we can only use it in hindsight it is no better than any other system, if, indeed, it is a system. It seems entirely logical, for example, that we should isolate our homes better to reduce environmental costs, and this is government policy.
However, it turns out that those who isolate their homes reward themselves by turning the heating up, thereby producing more CO2 than they would have done without insulation.
This counter-intuitive effect is just what obliquity seems designed for. The solution to our environmental problems would seem to include NOT insulating our homes.
This is a simple oblique solution but one that can only be seen as retrospectively.

In my opinion Blerina, this is an example why being irrational is a kind of obliquity that leads to the final destination or goal.

Hi Blerina,
ReplyDelete"Obliquity" is sometimes like the word itself oblique, means that in many things you can find obliquity, as you mentioned in your example above.
