SWITCH

Life is all about choices, and of course choices means a lot of alternatives. Generally, i think that the proportion scale between listening to the elephant or the rider should be equal or it can vary in small margins.

However i think that every time that we make a certain decision, first we listen to the rider but i personally never take that decision without CONSULTING to the elephant.
The elephant is part of being a human being, is part of having desires and wishes, it is about making proper and in proper decisions, is about daring and perceiving, it has born with us. Before being directors, managers or supervisors we are first humans. So, we can never escape from the elephant, it is and it will be always there, as present as the rider. Maybe, we can be lead by the rider, and maybe it can result in very positive results. But when it comes to negative results we always find our self and strength to move on and to achieve the desired results, to the elephant. They are both very important separately, but we can better succeed and excel when they are managed properly together.

There is nothing wrong and to be afraid of from the elephant. We have to make the elephant that we have in move in accordance with the rider (not expel it)and motivate the elephants of our subordinates. I think that we should be afraid when we see our self lead ONLY by the rider...

  1. Dear Jerina,

i read with very interest your opinion and i think is right. both of them elephant and rider are part of a human being and if he will act only with one of them (elephant or rider) he will be only a half man.

however I am also of the opinion that a successful person will be that one who is able switch according to situation.

  2. Dear Jerina,
Let me say concerning our favorite Elephant(our emotional side I mean). As for me I have always listened to my elephant. Sometimes I won, sometimes I lost. Some people say to me that I am happy because I listen to elephant more than to the rider.May be but it doesn't always lead me to the right solution.

  3. Hello,
I read your opinion and i find totally right.
The Elephant is the emotional, more instinctual part of us and the people you’re hoping to change. If your rider wants to get up early to go running, it’s your Elephant that would much rather grab an extra hour’s worth of sleep.

Most people see the Elephant as the problem, but according my opinion in the vast majority of successful change efforts, the Elephant is engaged as a driving force. However the deal is that we all know how much our conscious minds and emotional desires can be at odds and in order to make changes need to bring both of them together in a single way
