POZITIVE DEVIANCE
The employees in work places are not observed eight hours a day so they have the chance to spend the time with their private works. But if we have responsibilities for our work we keep ourselves in accordance with the working discipline. We can show positive deviance samples in most of work places. In my previous workplace, there were many opportunities for escaping or evading the work. But many of my former colleagues were working carefully and with discipline. Me and most of my friends decided to work conform these positive examples and our work was more appreciated and more successful. I believe that in every ambient there are people to be considered as good examples.

ReplyDeleteYou gave conforming to only official work as positive examples, but I think thinking out of the box, spending a percentage of time for new things, which you may consider as private works, is not negative. You may consider examples of companies like 3M and Google where the employees are encouraged to spend up to 20% of their working time for their private or pet projects. It has been shown that the creativity and loyalty gained in return to this policy far overweighs the worktime lost to this 20%, which would not have been gained by the company forcing people spend 100% of their time on offical tasks anyway. My opinion is that what you see as work discipline doesn't work so simple since we're all human and human mind can't be kept in a box, even for the 8 hours work day. It's designed and built to think out of the box...
