TOHUM – AUTISM
Actually I like to listen these kinds of real stories as mentioned in that book. So for that reason I prefer to share another one from Turkey. The Foundation name is “TOHUM” and the meaning is seed and it was established by two ladies.
Ms. Mine Narin had some experience about “Occupational Therapy Education” while she was in America and after she came back to Turkey she realized, while she was having conversation with a lady who has an autistic son, that this important theraphy education was not implemented in Turkey. There are 3 fundamental educations for children with developmental problems were not available in Turkey.
Ms. Mine and Ms. Aylin organized some meetings with some people who had autism child and also who had information or ability to change something in our country such as pediatrists. They visited Autistic Society which is the most important Foundation for Children with Autisim in England in order to examined activities. They believed that they can change something in Turkey and Tohum Autism Foundation was established in 2003 for public benefit.
Also I want to share why the foundation name is TOHUM (seed). Before 5 years old, the very intensive education (around 40 hours for per week) should be given to autistic children to be able to integrated with society and this is the one way to change something. It means many seeds are sown for a child with autism but unfortunately around 40 – 50% of children can be integrated with society other word some of the seeds grow green.
The last important information is, to explain how important situation is, today the most common neurological disorder and affects one child in 150. As a result it is not small possibility to have someone with autism around us.
