Followership

There are two important notions to consider: Leadership and Followership. So, if you are not a leader you are a follower. Even when people say they don’t belong to anybody or any group they are followers. Some of us follow spiritual leaders, some- political, some of us have the leaders of our principles or our desires. What I want to say is that even if you go the opposite side of others, you have the reason to follow this way. I would say we are passersby in this life. But while passing you come across many events and people which or who can influence you or not and you become whether active or passive passer accordingly.
According to Kellerman’s division of the followers the most dangerous, to my mind, are isolates and diehards. The isolates do not care where and who they go with and diehards do not care why they follow this way.
It is proved that only synergy in relations of leaders and followers can lead us to the harmony and high productivity by all means.

  1. The same people may be sometimes leaders and sometimes followers.Everyone is a part of the situational leadership, letting the person with the relevant core competency for a situation take leadership.

  2. Hello Olga
I think you can be a leader and a follower at the same time, there are many examples to prove it.
You can be a follower of a religion and at the same time you can be a leader of a religion institution,
You can be the leader of a political party, but you can be a follower in the protest organized by the opposite parties

You are right. If we go to opposite side of others we have the reason to fallow this way.

In addition to Kellerman, you might like to look at Ira Chaleff's The Couragfeous Follower: Standing UP To and For Our leaders. This classic management text is used by Kellerman in the courses she teaches and looks at ways of practicing followership in an interactive and dynamic way that helps the leader while serving the shared mission oin leader and follower alike.
