In modern days many beggars lay on the streets and this has become a common and worrying occurrence .
Many people have lost their houses and/or jobs and now vagabonding on the streets trying to find ways to survive everyday.
They sit on the edges of streets ,parks or bridges asking for money even using their children to attract the attention of the walkers.
Many of these walkers pass without turning their heads to these beggars. They show a high level of indifference and they do not care about this phenomenon. In this group of people unfortunately sometimes I am a member.
We do not do anything to stop this phenomenon: either to contribute individually or to create the right connections with different organizations to help these people.
Being a bypasser is a damage not only for those people who suffer but also for the whole society that don't think about them.
An important paragraph is written in different sacred books: "Do to others as you would have them do to you".

Hi Ortenca,
ReplyDeleteThis paragraph is one of the most beautiful paragraph of the bible.
Sometimes I ask to my old daughter to have this paragraph as the motto in the life.

Dear Ortenca,
ReplyDeleteThis phrase shall be a motto for everyone's life. It is also called Golden Rule of ethic. I would like to share also negatavie version of this phrase, also known as Silver Rule, which maybe has a stronger effect:
"One should not treat others in ways that one would not like to be treated"
Thank you,
Tatiana
Dear Ortenca,
ReplyDeleteIt’s true that nowadays there are many beggars on the streets and we as society don’t contribute to help them overcome this situation. I definitely agree to the fact that sometimes we become a follower of the indifferent group of people, but the reasons of doing so vary. One of them is that helping them means incentivizing these beggars to continue do so, or as you may know sometimes there are some bands that force people to become beggar and helping them means enriching these type of persons.
Another reason may be that by helping these people makes them subject to their fate to continue to live their lives in that way.
“Charity is injurious unless it helps the recipient to become independent of it”

It is really an important social problem in many countries. As for me, it can't be solved completely(of course it can be reduced to some extent)even if all the people give money to them everyday.Suppose that any of them has enough money to start a business.Do you think that he will stop begging? most probably no! as it is a life style for many of them.In other words, some of them are abusing the goodwill of people and you can't be sure who really need and who abuses the case.
ReplyDeleteI think, the best way to solve or at least to reduce this problem to the minimum level starts by determining them and identifying their real problems. After that it comes to support them in different ways (may be lifetime financial support or to give a job). These things can be realized by government and social organizations not by individually.
