BOOK.2. THE FLIGHT OF CREATIVE CLASS
Even if Albania is a small country that didn’t appear in the graphics, figures or maps showed in the lesson of yesterday evening, is important to emphasize the fact that if we evaluate it internally (which means comparing different cities of Albania with each other) we may notice some clear examples of creative classes.
1- Population is mainly located in flat landscape regions due to facilities in providing the necessary goods and services needed.
2- Business concentration (“Light emissions”): Main cities where the development of business activity is higher are: (1st group) Tirana, Durres
3- Educational possibilities (“Scientific citations”): have a concentration in the cities such as Tirana, Durres
4- “Patents”: there is a number of manufacturing/service activities that are creating kind of patents for their products; i.e. we may mention the shoes factories producing products with the logo Made in Albania
Albania is open to accept foreign creative innovative people (very good example are telecommunication companies, banks, or other foreign companies opperating in Albania leaded or managed by foreign staff together with albanian staff.

ReplyDeleteWhen I read your comments I realize that you really suffer for your country, you see the potential of Albania and you are ready to lead it to prosperous future. It is worth admiring. I am from Russia, a great country, with great past and I hope with great future. I didn’t know that only the economy of New York covers the economy of Russia. It is sad. We have always had a brain drain. Our creative class has always found shelter in other countries, because they have never been recognized in their own country. In communism time it meant they were the “enemies of the county” and could never come back. Even now people with innovative ideas and creative minds are leaving.
There are several reasons explained in the Flight over Creative Class. One of them is that creative class is centered in “spiky” places. “These spiky areas are like magnets.”
It seems to me that Florida worries for his country too. He is afraid that if America continues to behave to immigrants the way it behaves now, it will lose its first positions not only in innovation but in scientific citation as well since most scientists and the best contributors are immigrants.
